Sabran-sur-la-Lys, 1943. Nineteen-year-old Charlotte meets Tobias, a German soldier. It’s love at first sight. She learns she is pregnant just as Tobias is sent back to Germany.

At the end of the war, the villagers humiliate her by shaving her head. The night her child is to be born, she knocks on every door for help, but no one opens. She doesn’t survive her son’s birth. Other people will name him Clément.

Sabran-sur-la-Lys, 1985. Clément has returned to the village. He has just learned the truth about his mother’s fate. Blinded by his thirst for revenge, he decides to knock down the doors of
all the houses, leaving nothing intact.
