Oncle Dan

Jean-Marie Périer tells us the story of the enigmatic head of press Daniel Filipacchi, his « third father », the man who helped him get to where he is now, and who was a central figure during the Salut les copains years.

Daniel Filipacchi may be a faraway voice for some, but for others his name is a signature, a brand, almost a logo. With Salut les copains, he thrilled a whole generation, revealing to the public the likes of Francoise Hardy, Sylvie Vartan, Johnny Hallyday, Claude Francois… We are in the sixties, rock takes over the radio, and shows up on shiny posters, and Daniel leads the way. Paris Match, Playboy, Marie-Claire, Mlle Age Tendre… All these newspapers were either created, directed, or taken up by him.

At the age of sixteen, Jean-Marie Périer embarked on his career as a photographer, by becoming Daniel Filipacchi’s assistant. In a tender and lively style, today he tells the extraordinary journey of the man he called « Uncle Dan » : « behind the legend, there is a secretive man who always chose silence. Daniel is a destiny more than anything else. For more than fity years, he is the catalyst of our times, reigning over the media without ever losing his mystery. He always trusted me. So far be it from my intention to betray him, but since I had the good fortune to meet him, I want to share with you what I know about him ».

An intimate biography, rythmic and comical, about a man who lived his life at a hundred paces a minute, without ever confiding about it.
