Jean-Daniel Baltassat

Having studied history of art, cinema and photography in Paris, Jean-Daniel Baltassat worked with several art revues including L’art Vivant-Maeght and Opus as a theater and dance photographer. Up until 1973, he worked in half a dozen different professions (salesperson in a department store, cook, laboratory assistant, copy writer, etc.).
After two years in an advertising agency (director of commercials), From 1974 to 1979, he was in charge of the audiovisual advertising of Charles of the Ritz & Yves St Laurent in Europe. During the same period, he founded a art gallery in the Bastille.
From 1979 to 1985, Jean-Daniel Baltassat taught cinema and publicity in the south of France while beginning to write.
Since 1985, he works primarily as a writer; novels, translations, collaborations, essays and screenplays for television.
In 1991, he published his first novel on the conquest of Peru: Bâtard (éditions Bernard Barrault). In 1997, his seventh novel, Le Galop de l’ange (Robert Laffont) was given the Jeand’heurs price for historical fiction.
He lives in Paris since 1999.
